Hidden weapon emplacements, expansive parade lawns and restored Victorian-era Officers homes place history front side and center at Fort Worden Historical State Park.
While today's park plays host to workshops, festivals and family members reunions, the Fort Worden of a century ago had been home to almost 1,000 troops and officers training to protect the Puget Sound from prospective enemy invaders.
Fort Worden, Fort Flagler and Fort Casey, using their big firearms and strategic areas, when made up the defense that is coastal referred to as, "The Triangle of Fire. " Built between 1898 and 1917, fascinating Fort Worden features significantly more than 2 kilometers of beachfront and high bluffs with dazzling views associated with Strait of Juan de Fuca.
